Mr. Pumpkin is in the freezer

Well, we performed the annual whacking of the pumpkins here at the casa de chaos.

This year's totals:
  Pumpkin No. 1 produced about 8 pounds of roasted pulp.

Pumpkin No. 2 produced 7 cups of puree. That always seems a bit out of whack to me ...   Methinks that if I want to make pumpkin butter, I'll have to find a small pumpkin somewhere.


BTW, did anyone see the story in which chef Michael Chiarello told the "Today" show folks that canned pumpkin isn't really pumpkin ... it's allegedly blue Hubbard squash.

Should I be saying that my pumpkin pie is the real thing?
