Er, have you ever?

In the interest of frugality, or in repurposing something ... have you ever done something you'd be a bit embarrassed to admit to in public?
Yeah, I just did.

Er, no, I'm not going to say what it was ...

Well, I suppose I should be a little embarrassed about it, but once I went dumpster diving to find a lamp switch screw-thingy. I needed one to turn on/off a lamp, and I found a lamp with the same screwy thingy in a dumpster. So I took it, and fixed my lamp for free.
One time my husband found a nice Nautica brand jacket in the dumpster. He took it home, washed it, and gave it to me. (And I wore it!)
We got a new (to us) mop, broom, and buckets from an abandoned dormitory dumpster.
I took tomato cages from a trash pile on the side of the road. We got our boys' wagon from a trash pile too. It needed a new wheel, but we were able to replace it for less than $11.

Gee, that doesn't sound too bad. Heck, I have a chair that my late DM rescued from a trash pile (about 25 years ago) ... she fixed the broken leg, and I cleaned it up.
